In response to Cindy's "Old-Time Religion" editorial on the Home Page and the Church Matters Page....

GOD'S SENSE OF HUMOR

Well Cindy, I have believed for a number of years that God is much bigger and has a much better sense of humor than many churchgoers would like to believe.

#3 is spot on; ya gotta go to the right church to be an important mover and shaker in this town.

Amen to #6.

I like how churches that are having financial difficulty manage to find cash for stuff that amounts to holy horse manure.

You left out how some of The Chosen will lambaste people in the community based on their sexual preference or something else they are completely unqualified to judge. We all have to answer to God, let's let Him worry about some of this stuff since we aren't qualified.

1. BIBLE -- The Second Plague (Exodus 8:1-15)

~ The Plague of Frogs

Exo 8:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

Exo 8:2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:

Exo 8:3 And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:

Exo 8:4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.

Exo 8:5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

Exo 8:6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

Exo 8:7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.

Exo 8:8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.

Exo 8:9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?

Exo 8:10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.

Exo 8:11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.

Exo 8:12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.

Exo 8:13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.

Exo 8:14 And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.

Exo 8:15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said..

GOD'S NOT ALLOWED IN CHURCH
God hasn't been allowed in Church since prayer was outlawed from school and it became 'ok' to kill unborn babies.
See, if God was allowed in Church then we'd all have to toe the line and admit that we have to be responsible for what we do.
Its nice to go to church when Gods not there because we don't have to feel afraid for all the dumb stuff we do every day. Stuff the Bible and Jesus says are wrong, like lying, cheating, stealing, cursing, being envious, hating, being angry, doubting and not loving our neighbors.
I often wonder if any of the churches will know when Jesus returns and takes those who follow Him away?
Churches leave me with a deep longing to actually hear the Word of God spoken. Its been forever since I've heard a good sermon, or took notes of what scripture was read so I could go home and study it more.
I go to church because I love God and want to teach my children that giving an hour of their week to sit in Gods house is a good thing. They can sometimes hear scripture read in between the announcements of this conference or this fund raiser.
So until God is welcome in church again I guess we'll just have to welcome him into our hearts and lives and pray that our churches do the same.

WHAT ARE YOU THERE FOR?

Years go, whenever I was growing up in the mountains, I attended a very small Methodist Church. Most of the parishioners had known each other for many years and attending that church is one of my most treasured memories. It didn't matter if you were poor (We were.), it didn't matter what you looked like, or who you fraternized with. If anyone needed help, that little Church was there, regardless of the social status or religious denomination of the one in need. The attendees were like family with one another, and the Church really met the definition of *the body of Christ*. Sadly, I don't think that the same can be said for many Churches today.

Have you ever noticed how grandiose that new church buildings are becoming, especially in the larger cities? Now, I am not being petty here---if a congregation has the extra money to dress up their Church, I think it's wonderful. That being said, the *local mission* should be seen to before anything else.

You know what I'm talking about. That poor family with several children who are barely clothed decently. The elderly retiree who is struggling just to cover the household bills, and has to forego eating regularly in order to do so. The sick and infirm, and the so called social lepers.

Don't go to Church on Sunday and sit in your pew gossiping about others, commenting on the way they dress, the money they have or don't have, or who is cheating on who. It's none of your business people---you're there to worship God and set a Christ-like example......or are you?

READER SAYS: FLU SHMU!

The Swine Flu Panic-demic.
I've gotten a crap load of mail concerning the Swine Flu 'panic'demic.
I don't know what news agency began the 'panic'demic, but if you listen to me I'll tell you how to avoid the 'panic'demic.
1)Turn off your television. All this panic mongering is only to boost ratings.
2)Don't believe everything you read. See #1.
3)Regular flu kills about 35,000 people every year in the US. These people are usually old & in bad health to begin with. A head cold could kill them, 'nuff said?
And if your still concerned about catching this 'panic'demic flu this coming fall, follow common sense.
1.Wash your hands after you've been out & about.
2.Don't touch your face, mouth, nose or eyes with unwashed hands.
3.Don't go around obviously sick people.
4.If you or your kids are sick, STAY HOME! Don't spread it, contain it. So what if you miss work & have to stay at home with your sick kid. Suck it up. I don't want my kids bringing home YOUR sickness.
5.If schools would follow sanitary measures & allow kids to wash their hands & desks & open the windows in the classroom every once in a while it would go a long way in reducing school borne illnesses.

Global WARMING? This summer?

OK, is it just me or does anyone else think this Global Warming stuff is a big pile of crap?
I'm sitting here freezing my butt off and its JULY!
I know the tired old rote of 'Well, its extreme weather. Global warming doesn't mean is just going to get hotter.' Sounds like a convenient excuse to me. What do I know about it anyhow?
